Iva Gueorguieva (b. 1974) immigrated to the United States from Bulgaria in 1990, and currently lives and works in Los Angeles. She received her B.A. in Philosophy from Goucher College in Baltimore and her M.F.A. from Tyler School of Art at Temple University in Philadelphia, where she studied painting.
Gueorguieva’s complex abstract paintings are awash with color, movement and texture. Layering cut fabric, paper and paint on the surface of the canvas to create seemingly chaotic compositions, she notes that the action of creating is for her a way of thinking about space and time.
